Rustic Apple Tart

 

Apple tart anyone? We’ve found the perfect go-to dessert for when you’re short on time, but still want to impress your guests. This dessert can be made and baked within the hour and only requires a few ingredients. But what we love the most about this recipe is that it’s full of fresh fruit and has a minimal amount of sugar.

Our picture (above) shows the apple tart, fresh out of the oven and we were able to get 6 generous portions from it. We also served ours with a scoop of ice-cream, but you could serve it with fresh cream or enjoy it on its own.

Ingredients

1-2 sheets of puff pastry – thawed

6 green apples – peeled, cored and cut in half

100ml of thickened cream

Ground cinnamon

Brown sugar – optional

Lemon juice – approx. 2-3 tbsp

 

How to make our Rustic Apple Tart

Line a rectangular baking dish with baking paper.

Place a sheet of puff pastry within your dish, making sure that it comes up the sides by approximately a centimetre. Depending on the size of your dish, you may need 2 sheets. Make sure you overlap the join and press together.

Using a fork, randomly prick the base of the puff pastry.

Slice your apples very thinly and evenly (as pictured above). We used a mandolin to get them all the same size. Place the sliced apples in a large bowl and coat them with the lemon juice to stop them from discolouring.

Start to assemble the tart by tightly layering and overlapping the sliced apples (as pictured above).

When you have covered all of the base, gently drizzle the thickened cream all over the apples.

Lastly, sprinkle the tart with ground cinnamon and brown sugar, to taste.

Bake in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius, until golden (approx. 20 – 30 minutes, depending on your oven).
