Break your COVID Bad Habits
Western Australians have performed so well in the fight against COVID and should be very proud of their results. What many people don’t realise is that we now have a more serious battle on our hands, one where we all need to stand strong and fight hard if we want to win against the worst enemy of all – our COVID bad habits!
For many of us, isolation has been trying and we’ve unconsciously introduced some coping mechanisms to deal with stress or boredom. The rediscovery of cooking and baking may have led to an over-indulgence in culinary delights. A relaxing beer or glass of wine may have justifiably turned into two or three after a hard day with the kids, or the boredom of moving from one end of the house to the other! Couple these with increased screen time and decreased movement and we have a recipe for disaster.
Dry (or Dryish!) July

Prolonged overindulgence and inactivity can lead to or exacerbate underlying health conditions so it’s important to make changes to get your health back on track.
National Diabetes Week is an opportune time for everyone to focus on their eating and drinking habits and get their blood sugar levels checked. Would you know how to recognise the early warning signs of diabetes? Did you know that undiagnosed diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney damage, amputation, heart attack and stroke?
Learning the 4 T’s could save a life
- Toilet – going to the toilet a lot!
- Tired – unexplained or excessive fatigue
- Thirst – an unquenchable thirst
- Thinner – sudden or unexplained weight loss

For many people, exercise routines and normal day-to-day movements have changed, but now more than ever it’s so important to get back on track with your fitness. Take things slowly, but gradually increase your efforts to get back to pre-COVID routines or introduce healthier new ones. Walking, swimming or bike riding are all low impact exercises and great ways to improve your health. In addition, when you exercise your body releases endorphins which can help improve mental wellbeing.
