Mental Health Week – 8th-15th October 2016 and Mental Health Day – Monday 10th October 2016
Mental Health Week is a useful reminder for us all to be proactive and think about our own mental health and that of those around us. It’s a great way to connect with others, participate in activities that can enhance mental wellbeing and help break down associated stigmas.
What is Mental Health
Mental Health relates to a person’s emotional, psychological and social wellbeing which all affect how we feel, think and act. Good mental health allows us to fully enjoy and appreciate every aspect of our lives.
Mental Health Illness affects 1 in 5 Australians and can be in the form of Anxiety, Depression, Eating or Personality Disorder, Bipolar Mood Disorder or Schizophrenia. In most cases, the stigma and discriminating attitudes associated with these illnesses can often prevent people from seeking much needed help. These attitudes can be more detrimental than the illness itself.
